The third and last Top 10 single from Steppenwolf had been recorded months earlier for a trippy little R-rated flick titled “Candy.” The plot was described by film critic Roger Ebert as a young girl bouncing from one man to another like a pinball caught up in a porn movie. It earned middling reviews despite appearances by Marlon Brando, Richard Burton, Walter Matthau and Ringo Starr.
