“Sweet Blindness” #13 11/9/1968

Drinking songs have been around since the dawn of music. Laura Nyro wrote a pretty good one here, made into a hit by the 5th Dimension. As usual, the Wrecking Crew contributed mightily, with the usual suspects - Hal Blaine on drums, Joe Osborn on bass, Tommy Tedesco on guitar, Larry Knechtel on piano, etc. The video was shot along the Mediterranean coast in Cannes, France.

All the Nyro songs that made the top-40 all seemed to be versions recorded by established commercial acts.
If she doesn't already have a place in a songwriter's hall-of-fame she should. She's one of the legends, for sure.

She was inducted into the R&R HOF in 2012...long, long after she passed. Too little too late. Definitely one of my favorite songwriters.
