A blues standard from a few years earlier by Tommy Tucker was given a Latin spin by José Feliciano. In 1967 he was to perform in the UK but customs wouldn’t allow José’s guide dog, Trudy, in the country unless she was quarantined for six months. Standard procedure, they said. Video is from the Australian TV show “Hit Scene.”

Let's not forget the versions by The Searchers (B-side of LOVE POTION #9) and Stevie Wonder.
P.S.: Are you ever going to mention 2+2 by Bob Seger?
I’ll have to look up “2+2=?” That one got to #79 nationally but was big in the Detroit area (surprise!). It was his single just before “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man.”
Well...2+2 did reach #79...in Canada. Did zero nationally on any of the US charts.
