The first major hit for Montgomery, Alabama’s own Clarence Carter. Blind since birth, he graduated college with a degree in music before making a go of it in the business. Most of his material could be summed up in one word: S-E-X. Clarence’s famous “Strokin’ “ got absolutely zero radio airplay due to its raunchy nature, but still became a club and jukebox hit.
