Instead, this one became their biggest hit since “Shop Around” in 1961. Smokey Robinson was shopping and found some pearls as a birthday gift for his wife. Instead of saying “I second that motion,” his buddy Al Cleveland said “I second that emotion” and they wrote a hit based on the misstatement.
