Yet another record that would become much bigger in 1969 than in 1967, although in this case someone else had the hit. Blood, Sweat & Tears covered the original version here by Brenda Holloway, one of Motown's forgotten acts. She never quite fit in with the label, and really didn't get the promotional effort other acts received.

She "never quite fit in" with Motown?
Considering Smokey Robinson wrote WHEN I'M GONE for her, doesn't that indicate at least a modicum of camaraderie on somebody's part at the label?
Brenda rarely traveled to Detroit - she recorded most of her Motown stuff in her native L.A. instead. Apparently she didn’t attend the Motown grooming school like their other female acts did, leading Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson to say she acted too much like Tina Turner on stage - i.e., a little rough around the edges.
You mean "Too much candor! How unfeminine!"?
